The cheapest app is the one you do not have to build. We check that first, then build what genuinely needs building.
Shopify Flow handles a large share of automation — when this happens to an order, customer or stock level, do that. Shopify Functions cover checkout logic such as discounts, delivery options and payment rules. An existing app may already do the job. We only quote a build when none of these fits.
Most merchant needs are custom apps: syncing with an ERP or warehouse, generating documents, enforcing fulfilment rules, moving data between Shopify and the systems you already run. Built for your catalogue and volume, not for every possible store.
A public App Store app needs review, support, pricing and a roadmap, and has to work for stores nothing like yours. We build them for businesses that intend to sell the app — and we say so plainly when a custom app would do.
Shopify Scripts stopped running on 30 June 2026. Discount, shipping and payment logic now runs as Functions, and checkout interface changes as checkout UI extensions. Custom apps containing Functions require Shopify Plus; Functions-based App Store apps run on every plan.
Hosting, API version upgrades as Shopify retires old versions, and alerting when an integration fails are recurring costs. We put them in the proposal rather than letting them surprise you a year later.
A straightforward public app runs £16,000–£34,000; complex builds with ERP integration reach £48,000+. Private custom apps typically land between £11,000 and £44,000.
If it is only for your store, private is faster, safer and less constrained. If you plan to sell it to other merchants, public gives you App Store distribution and revenue.
