Healthonik: a UK health brand that was losing sales to its own storefront.

A rebuilt Online Store 2.0 theme, a stripped-back app stack and multi-currency checkout. Mobile Lighthouse went from 42 to 98 and LCP from 3.8s to 1.4s โ€” on a fixed scope and a fixed price.

The problem

Healthonik sells supplements and wellness products into the UK and the EU. The catalogue was fine and the traffic was there, but the storefront was collapsing under its own weight: a heavily modified premium theme, twelve apps injecting scripts into every page, and a product template that took almost four seconds to paint on a mid-range Android.

Their internal read was that they needed more traffic. The data said otherwise โ€” mobile sessions were converting at less than half the desktop rate, and the drop-off was concentrated in the first eight seconds of the session. They were paying for visitors who left before the page finished loading.

A second problem sat underneath it. The brand wanted to price in EUR for EU customers, but the theme had hard-coded GBP formatting in six places, so multi-currency could not be switched on without breaking the product pages.

What we did

01
App audit before any code
We mapped all twelve apps to the feature they delivered and what they cost in bytes. Five were doing work that belonged in the theme: a size guide, a stock notice, an FAQ accordion, a badge system and a related-products widget. We rebuilt those five as native sections and removed the apps.
02
A theme rebuilt on Online Store 2.0
Rather than patch a modified premium theme, we rebuilt on a clean Online Store 2.0 base with the brand's existing design language. Sections and blocks were structured so the marketing team could build campaign pages without a developer.
03
Metafields instead of hard-coded content
Ingredients, dosage, certification and lab-report links moved into metafields and metaobjects. The product template renders them conditionally, so a new product ships without a code change.
04
Multi-currency done properly
Shopify Markets enabled for GB and EU, with currency formatting driven by the market rather than hard-coded. Prices, cart and checkout all resolve in the customer's currency.
05
A performance budget in the contract
We wrote LCP under 1.5 seconds into the scope as a deliverable, not an aspiration. Image formats, critical CSS, deferred third-party scripts and a preload strategy for the hero were the work that got us there.
06
Subscriptions and a content hub
The subscription flow was rebuilt around the new theme, and a content hub was added for the brand's articles with proper schema markup and internal linking into collections.

The result

Mobile Lighthouse moved from 42 to 98 and field LCP from 3.8s to 1.4s. Mobile conversion rate rose 31% in the first full quarter on a comparable traffic mix. The app subscription bill dropped by roughly ยฃ180 a month, which pays for a meaningful part of the ongoing retainer. The marketing team now ships campaign pages themselves.

โ€œ
I expected a headless migration to take months. It was done in six weeks and mobile performance tripled. The part I did not expect: we stopped needing a developer for everyday page changes.
